Having a healthy digestive system is vital for the overall health of your entire body. When your digestive system is not working properly, it can cause an abnormal amount of bowel movements and let food sit in your stomach for an extended period of time – just rotting Allowing food to sit in your stomach for over twenty hours can eventually lead to more serious problems like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). You can tell if you have a healthy digestive system by the number of times you have a bowl movement each day. So, you are probably wondering, how many times should I be pooping a day?

 If your digestive tract is healthy, you should have a bowel movement at least once a day. Having a bowel movement once daily means your food is going through your digestive track at the correct rate- within the twenty hour time frame. There is, however, a point where too many bowel movements each day can be a concern.

If you have over four bowel movements a day, this can pose a problem too because the food is moving too quickly through your system and you are unable to absorb many of the nutrients. If you have less than one bowel movement or more than four each day, which are accompanied by stomach pain, you may want to see your doctor or health practitioner to rule out any digestive disorders. However, if you do not have stomach pain, there generally is not anything to worry about, and you can take certain steps to create a healthy digestive system.

If you have too many or too few bowel movements daily, you first want to rule out any obvious causes. For example, calcium can cause you to become constipated if you take more than your body needs. If your body is not getting enough water or fiber, it can take a toll on your digestive tract as well, so you want to be sure to incorporate both into your diet.
Low levels of healthy bacteria in your stomach and digestive tract can also cause your digestive system to get off track.
