Many cancers
can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too
much alcohol,
eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, being vaccinated
against certain infectious diseases, not eating too much processed and red
meat, and avoiding too much exposure to sunlight. Early detection through screening
is useful for cervical and colorectal cancer. The benefits of screening in
breast cancer are controversial but the truth remains that if you screen earlier
on and it is detected you stand a good chance of beating cancer. Cancer is
often treated with some combination of radiation
therapy, surgery, chemotherapy,
and targeted therapy. Pain and symptom
management are an important part of care. Palliative
care is particularly important in those with advanced disease.
The chance of survival depends on the type of cancer and extent
of disease at the start of treatment. In children under 15 at
diagnosis the five-year survival rate
in the developed world is on average 80%..
Now one can takes all the precautions in the world, follows a strict vegetarian diet, no meat, no fat, no junk food and processed food, no alcohol or tobacco, yet you end up having cancer. One can be a health buff, yet cancer knocks on your door, you end up having cancer. "Why" you ask me. "what didn't i do right" you ask me again. Well the truth remains that till date we dont even know why cancers occur in healthy individuals or why it attacks and invade health tissues but through research we have come to know that FREE RADICALS play a major role in causing cancer. How do we checkmate free radicals this is where green tea comes into play. in our next write up we shall discuss the benefits of green tea. But for those that eat right, work out and stay off junk foods, tobacco, red meat etc they stand a better chance of beating cancer and living long as compared to those that dont lead a health life style.
